China to push for green building in 2014 | Eco-Business.com

The Chinese government will now require new urban buildings to comply with mandatory ?green? standards and renovate existing buildings to be more eco-friendly by 2015.

According to a Xinhua report, an official from the National Development and Reform Commission has announced that the government will implement a green building code, including energy-saving standards, which state-owned buildings constructed from 2014 onward have to strictly follow.

By next year, the guideline will also cover affordable housing projects in China?s provincial-level cities, provincial capitals and vice provincial-level cities, and public construction projects with an area exceeding 20,000 square meters per building.
