Rethinking Home-Improvement: Part I | Energy Savers America

For most American?s, the home is your most valuable asset. When it comes to finances, many enlist the services of a financial advisor or accountant. When it comes to your body, you develop a relationship with a primary care doctor. When it comes to your teeth, you go to a dentist or orthodontist.

Instead of letting your home cost you a stack of money, find out how your home can MAKE you a stack of money!

Particularly with your teeth you find out that not taking care of them regularly ends up costing you more money and pain in the future. So it?s important to have that ongoing relationship.

The list of professional relationships you develop to care for and maintain the things that matter most to you can go on and on.

However, most people maintain their home on an ?as-needed?, ?when-something-happens? basis. Your HVAC system breaks so you find an HVAC contractor. When a pipe bursts, you call a plumber. New doors, windows, insulation-whatever the case is- most of us seek assistance from a long list of individual contractors who work on your home while remaining boxed off from the big picture.

The big picture is that your home operates as a SYSTEM, in the same way as our body, car, and finances.

I have never heard of anyone hiring different financial advisors to deal with each individual area where money is spent. If you go to the doctor, your primary care physician looks at how you are holding up as a whole and looks at what the underlying causes of your symptoms might be-even when you aren?t aware of those symptoms.

Then, your physician refers you to a specialist to take care of specific problems that affect long term health. And not just anyone that claims to be a specialist, but a certified and accomplished professional that has proven their ability to do the job right time and time again? and when that specialist looks to diagnose your illness and prescribe medication, what are the first questions they ask? What other medications are you taking? What is your family history? What other health problems have you had in the past?

Understanding the way a ?system? works is just as vital to your personal health as it is to the health of your home.

And that?s exactly what an Energy Savers America energy audit is designed to do.

Read part II of this blog series tomorrow and find out more about how Energy Savers America thinks about home improvements, and what they mean to you and your family.
