Placement Range: $31,900 - $35,000

General Description:

The Health and Fitness Specialist will provide direct supervision over water safety instructors, Health and Safety Instructors, Personal Enrichment classes and programs and Fitness staff. The Specialist will organize and administer a year round swim lesson program, fitness program and health and safety program. The Specialist will assist the Coordinator in providing leadership and management for all health and fitness related non-credit classes, services and events occurring in the Recreation and Fitness Department. The Health and Fitness Specialist will assist in the development, supervision, marketing and implementation of aquatic, health, fitness and safety programs and special events to the community and corporate groups and organizations.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Bachelors degree or a minimum of two years of experience teaching or leading group activities.

Experience in the coordination and management of multiple schedules.

Current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or the ability to obtain certification within 90 days of employment.

Lifeguard Training Instructor with First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent certifications, or ability to obtain within six months of employment.

Basic level group fitness certification or the ability to obtain certification within six months of employment.

Current American Red Cross CPR certificate or equivalent.

Current American Red Cross First Aid certificate or equivalent.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Bachelors degree in recreation management, kinesiology or related field.

Three years experience teaching swimming lessons or 150 hours instructional experience with nationally recognized program, such as Red Cross, YMCA, Ellis and Associates or Swim America.

Three years or 150 hours experience teaching a variety of group fitness classes.

Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or Instructor Trainer.

Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor or Instructor Trainer.

Nationally accredited group fitness certification.
