Ronald Torreyes drilled a two-run double with two outs in the seventh inning to cap a comeback as the Dayton Dragons beat the Bowling Green Hot Rods 5-4 on Sunday afternoon. The Dragons took two of three in the series to start the second half of play.
The Hot Rods were the first-half East Division champions of the Midwest League.
The Dragons came back from a 4-0 deficit.
Pat Doyle (5-2) worked two perfect innings for the win in relief. Blaine Howell pitched the seven, Chad Rogers the eighth and Drew Hayes tossed a perfect ninth inning for his 10th save. He lowered his ERA to 1.13 on the season.
Dayton starting pitcher Josh Smith had a very rare poor outing on the mound. He worked just four innings, allowing seven hits and four earned runs with one walk and four strikeouts as he saw his earned run average balloon from 1.59 to 1.97. He did not get a decision.
